Ok, that may be an exaggeration, but it&#8217;s a fantastic tool to have in your Photoshop arsenal. &nbsp;It&#8217;s a simple trick that creates amazing results with fast click of the mouse. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>What is a Clipping Mask?<\/h3>\n<p>Have you ever seen text or shapes with an image inside it? &nbsp;It was probably made using a clipping mask. &nbsp;With a clipping mask, combine&nbsp;two elements into one.<\/p>\n<p>Shapes or Text + A graphic = Shapes or Text with Graphics masked into it. &nbsp;It&#8217;s easier to show you:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4129\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/debbielundphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/clipping-mask-tutorial-3-1.jpg?resize=697%2C178\" alt=\"How to put graphics inside text - Photoshop clipping mask tutorial.\" width=\"697\" height=\"178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/debbielundphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/clipping-mask-tutorial-3-1.jpg?w=1000 1000w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/debbielundphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/clipping-mask-tutorial-3-1.jpg?resize=310%2C79 310w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/debbielundphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/clipping-mask-tutorial-3-1.jpg?resize=768%2C197 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 697px) 100vw, 697px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Clipping masks are a great tool for creating:<\/h3>\n<p>Blog headers &amp; graphics,&nbsp;T-shirt Designs,&nbsp;advertising graphics,&nbsp;book covers, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, the sky&#8217;s the limit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>There are a few things I&#8217;m taking for granted in this video:<\/h3>\n<p>&#8230;That you&#8217;re familiar with the basics of Adobe Photoshop, such as layers, how to use the text tool &amp; brush tool &amp; that you understand what layer transparency is.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8230;That you know how to save a file in Photoshop after you&#8217;ve completed it, and that you know the difference between a .PSD file (a native Photoshop file where all layers are saved in your file) and a .JPG file (flat, no layers). &nbsp;There&#8217;s also the .PNG file which is a way to save your file while keeping the background transparent, and is a great tool for bloggers or anyone else who needs a transparent file\/logo to drop on top of something else. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Lets jump right in and I&#8217;ll show you how clipping masks in Photoshop can bring your creative results to a whole new level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/o58A_etHOkM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The beautiful thing is that once you understand how Photoshop clipping masks work, you can create any of these effects, and many more. &nbsp;The only limit is your imagination. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>You may be wondering &#8211; will this work in Adobe Photoshop Elements? &nbsp;<\/h3>\n<p>The answer is YES! &nbsp;It does!<\/p>\n<p>Make sure you are&nbsp;working in &#8220;Expert Mode&#8221; and follow along the same steps as in the video. &nbsp;Here&#8217;s a screen capture of the Clipping Mask in action in Adobe Photoshop Elements. &nbsp;The background layer is turned off (see the eyeball with the red line through it?). &nbsp;The text layer is above the background layer, and it the background of the text is transparent. &nbsp;Then the graphic is the next layer up &#8211; above the text. &nbsp;Use Option and click right between the two top layers and voila! the graphic is masked into your text. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3594 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/debbielundphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/clipping-mask-photoshop-elements-2.jpg?resize=648%2C449\" alt=\"Clipping Mask Tutorial in Photoshop Elements\" width=\"648\" height=\"449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/debbielundphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/clipping-mask-photoshop-elements-2.jpg?resize=1024%2C709 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/debbielundphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/clipping-mask-photoshop-elements-2.jpg?resize=310%2C215 310w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/debbielundphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/clipping-mask-photoshop-elements-2.jpg?resize=768%2C532 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/debbielundphoto.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/clipping-mask-photoshop-elements-2.jpg?w=1393 1393w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nFollow my Adobe Photoshop board on Pinterest!<\/p>\n<p>Photography Tips &amp; Tricks on Pinterest!<\/p>\n<p>Now for some technical info &#8211; This video was made using Adobe Photoshop CC 2015.5.1 on an iMac.
